Fatty Acid Profiling
NML is now able to offer a fatty acid profiling service using mIR technology. This service includes testing for:
- Total saturates
- Total unsaturates
- Total polyunsaturates
- Total monounsaturates
- C16:0
- C18:0
- C18:1
Testing is completed on bulk milk samples and can be conducted as part of the payment test suite.
Results are presented back to milk purchasers through client specific reports (which can be in pdf or csv form).
Results can be presented back to farmers and other parties through pdf reports sent via email. Results are also available through NML's Fatty Acid Monitor system, which is part of the Herd Companion information portal.
Fatty Acid Profiling on individual cow samples
NML is taking part in a number of projects that centre on assessing the potential to derive useful cow health and performance measures through undertaking fatty acid profiling on individual cow milk samples. Such projects include Optimir (www.optimir.eu) which is a four year European project with 17 partners across 5 EU member states. NML is working with a number of GB dairy farmers in the pursuit of this research.
Optimir
Optimir is an EU funded project that involves organisations from five different EU member states. The four year project is focussed on researching the potential use of spectral testing of individual cow milk samples as a means of measuring cow health, fertility, nutritional status and environmental impact.
NMR is supporting this project by embarking on a testing programme for a number of NMR recording farms and supplying the results of this spectral testing to research partners for analysis.
It is anticipated that the outcome of this project will be the introduction of a series of new technical performance measures that will aid in the management of the dairy cow in the years to come.
For more information on the project please follow the link www.optimir.eu . If you are interested in being involved in this project please contact NMR customer services on 0844 72 555 67.
