NMR and MyHealthyHerd, have organised two one-day courses for vets this spring on Tuesday April 24 at Mere Court Hotel, Knutsford and Thursday April 26 at Taunton Racecourse, Somerset.
Specialised Johne's disease control speakers make up the programme and include Professor Soren Nielsen from the University of Copenhagen, Peter Orpin MRCVS from the Park Vet Group, Leicester and Dick Sibley FRCVS from Devon-based West Ridge Vets.
Professor Nielson is responsible for the highly successful Danish voluntary Johne's scheme that involves 50% of the Danish herd. The scheme, on which NML's Herdwise Johne's surveillance service is based, has influenced strategies for testing and control of the disease globally.
Speakers Pete Orpin and Dick Sibley both have first-hand experience of implementing Johne's control programmes on dairy units across the UK and have developed modules within MyHealthyHerd to record and analyse biosecurity; a crucial part in Johne's control.
Analyses on the associations between Johne's status and other performance indicators will also be made public at this event.
Key areas that will be covered on the courses include disease entry and spread, looking especially at the risk evaluation in infected and uninfected herds. Also covered will be new approaches in diagnosis and surveillance and the best practice for control options in dairy herds, looking at comprehensive vet packages that can be offered to producers.
The cost of the course, which runs from 10am to 4pm, is £80+VAT per delegate (£60 for additional delegates). For more information or to register, click here, alternatively, please email chriss@nmr.co.uk.
