HerdTracker

What is it?

A targeted quarterly 30 cow screen for Johne’s disease.  This service uses milk recording samples and costs £25 per month

Why should you do it?

Johne’s disease may be present in your herd despite not seeing any clinical signs. It is a disease that causes considerable economic losses through reduced productivity due to increased SCC and mastitis, lameness, poor yields all of which lead to premature culling.
This service is appropriate for  herds that do not have an active Johne’s infection but are at risk of the disease entering the herd.  Herds with known Johne’s infection should consider whole herd testing.

What are the benefits?

Targeted quarterly 30 cow screens  deliver excellent  herd level surveillance, providing a cost effective alternative to whole herd testing for those farms with no evidence of active Johne’s disease.  It provides reassurance that you will identify infection early, should it enter your herd.

What is involved?

Thirty cows will automatically be selected for testing on a quarterly basis using your milk records. The testing will be carried out using your milk recording samples.  You will need to let us know of any TB tests as there needs to be a minimum 42 day gap after a TB test before  Johne’s testing can be carried out.

What happens next?

To sign up for this service, contact your local NMR field representative.  Please ensure that you have discussed Johne’s management with your vet to make sure this service is right for your farm.  Should they require any further information about Johne’s testing options, we have two in-house vets who can offer support.
